Des Moines Federal Courthouse

After successfully completing two federal courthouses with the same partner, Hunt was brought into build this new federal courthouse located on the banks of the Des Moines River in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.  The project consists of nine courtrooms, holding cells, and a sally port -  and is across the river from Des Moines City Hall.  The preconstruction phase started in January of 2017 and wrapped up in May of 2021.  The project then moved into construction in March and wrapped up in October 2023.  Hunt Electric and our in-house low voltage partner ECSI, have worked side by side to provide and install all the electrical, low voltage rough-ins, and fire alarm.

FACING CHALLENGES:
The biggest challenge was getting the budget required for the project to move forward.  Through collaboration with the general contractor and the design team, Hunt offered up nearly $2MM in value engineering options throughout the design phase.  Approximately 60% of these options were utilized.
