3M – Aberdeen Plant Expansion

3M added 120,000 square feet to its existing Aberdeen, SD facility to expand production of N95 masks, after being awarded additional U.S. Department of Defense contracts to assist in the fight against COVID-19.

We modified the existing 480v switchgear and then installed 480 Volt feeders to (2) main switchboards for (4) new production manufacturing lines AE09/AE10 and AE11/AE12. We installed several disconnects, transformers and panelboards for each line.
We installed the equipment manufacturer supplied power and control panels including IO and remote IO panels. We grounded all owner and equipment manufacturers panels and equipment.

Our scope included the procurement, layout and installation of raceway and cable to all the equipment, panels, motors and devices to provide (4) fully functional manufacturing lines.

We also provided and installed all the data and fiber networks which connected the equipment lines to the owners overall control system. Due to the short construction schedule, contractors for all trades were working 2 shifts in the same small areas so we used 3D/BIM Modeling and prefabrication construction, to greatly reduce the required field labor.
