Sherwin-Williams R&D Facility Construction | Hunt Electric

Brecksville, OH Research Facility Near Completion

A state-of-the-art hub for chemists, engineers, technicians, and support teams, the 119-acre campus will house a 600,000 s.f. facility consisting of seven buildings dedicated to product development, coatings research, color technology, and process engineering. It is expected to be completed in late 2024, and Hunt is proud of the role we play in this project.

Hunt Electric, as part of an IPD partnership with local partner - Lake Erie Electric, is providing all electrical construction including the campus heating/power plant (PUC), 13.8kV & 36kV medium voltage distribution, multiple generators, fire alarm, site lighting, interior wiring, and site security.

USING DESIGN-ASSIST TO OVERCOME BUDGET AND SCHEDULE CHALLENGES

To address the challenges of project escalation, we employed design-assist methods. Hunt Electric worked closely with the design and construction team to identify cost-effective solutions, address early procurement concerns, manage constructability issues, and provide timely product submittals and information. Additionally, we provided up-to-date cost estimates throughout the IPD design process to ensure the project stayed within budget.

OUR APPROACH TO INTEGRATED PROJECT DELIVERY - IPD

Co-location and a big-room approach has allowed everyone to raise concerns immediately during project development and talk through the solutions in a constructive, value-added manner.

Hunt Electric has continued to provide transparency through Target Value Design (TVD) principals and the use of Last Planner System (LPS), one-piece flow, and weekly look-aheads.

LEAN CONSTRUCTION PRACTICES

We utilize the Last Planner System as a road map to final completion and the Last Planner Schedule is constantly updated to reflect project trends and the production output of the team.

Prioritizing Lean Construction principles, our Lean leaders, project managers, and general foremen remain dedicated to enhancing productivity. By encouraging collaborative project efficiency and quality, we strive to deliver the highest possible value to the Sherwin Williams project through project closeout.
