Salvation Army Plover Place

Duluth, MN

Salvation Army’s Plover Place offers 24 units of housing to people experiencing chronic homelessness. Our Duluth-based limited energy provider ARS installed a new fire alarm system and upgraded the existing access control system in the new building.

Plover Place was funded through American Rescue Plan money allocated to the City of Duluth, St Louis County, and the Duluth Economic Development Authority.

Residents will have access to case management, life skills development, and 24 hour staffing to provide the support they need to be successful in their transition into stable housing and to pursue their own education, health, and employment goals.

Keeping Installation Costs in Check

ARS was referred for this project by a competitor due to the complex nature of the installations.
The need for a fire alarm system was determined after the original project was finished. Because of this, no rough-ins were completed before the walls were sheeted and finished. Typically this would mean that access panels would need to be cut into the sheet rock, and patching and painting would be needed after cabling and device installation.

We developed an installation plan using surface raceway (wiremold), effectively eliminating the need to cut, paint, and patch sheetrock, while keeping the project within the Owner’s budget.
