Hunt Electric Corporation proudly served as the electrical contractor for the MSP Terminal 2 North Expansion at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) This $263 million construction project will add two new airline gates, additional loading docks, more passenger seating, concessions, restrooms, baggage handling, office, storage, and support spaces. Completed in collaboration with Baer Manufacturing and other partners, this construction demonstrates Hunt Electric’s unmatched capabilities in delivering complex, high-profile electrical infrastructure projects. From advanced prefabrication to cutting-edge Building Information Modeling (BIM), Hunt Electric deployed a comprehensive suite of resources and technical expertise to ensure the project’s success.

On the MSP Terminal 2 North Expansion, Hunt Electric deployed a wide range of technical skills, resources, and innovative approaches to meet the project’s demanding requirements. Our expertise in electrical design, prefabrication, and virtual design and construction (VDC) ensured seamless integration of complex systems while maintaining strict timelines and safety standards.

Hunt is providing and installing over 8000’ of duct bank. Because of jobsite space limitations, we are working with Baer Manufacturing to ship prefabricated materials to the jobsite on an as needed basis. This improves the flow of site work across trades, lending to the overall success of the project. Our Advanced Construction Planning (ACP) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) departments are collaborating on layout and drawings subsequently provided to Baer.

Additionally, our existing crews at the airport have in-house knowledge that helps with scheduling shutdowns, as required.

• Electrical System Design and Installation: Engineered and installed high-capacity electrical systems to power terminal operations, including lighting, HVAC, and communication networks.
• Prefabrication Excellence: Partnered with Baer Manufacturing to leverage prefabrication for duct banks, power distribution, and lighting assemblies, reducing on-site labor and accelerating project timelines.
• Building Information Modeling (BIM): Utilized advanced BIM and VDC tools to coordinate electrical layouts, minimize conflicts, and optimize system performance.
• Duct Bank Installation: Designed and installed underground duct banks to support reliable power and data connectivity across the terminal.
• Low-Voltage Systems: Implemented sophisticated low-voltage solutions, including security, fire alarms, and communication systems, tailored to airport safety and operational needs.
• Energy-Efficient Lighting: Installed LED lighting systems to enhance passenger experience while reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs.
• Project Management and Coordination: Provided end-to-end project management, collaborating with general contractors, architects, and airport authorities to ensure compliance with FAA and local regulations.
• Working on passenger boarding bridges.
• A large distribution system with 15KV generators, paralleling switchgear, and UPSs
