Mesabi Metallics Electrical Construction
Mesabi Metallics | Industrial Electrical Construction and Fiber Optic Infrastructure
Powering Minnesota’s First New Taconite Mine and Pellet Plant in Nearly 50 Years
Mesabi Metallics represents one of the most significant industrial developments in Minnesota in decades. Located in Nashwauk on the site of the former Butler Mine, the project will become the state’s first new taconite mine and pellet plant in nearly 50 years, helping strengthen Minnesota’s mining industry and regional economy.
Hunt Electric and ARS partnered to provide electrical construction and fiber optic infrastructure for this landmark industrial facility, supporting the advanced systems required for modern mining and pellet production. With an estimated completion in October 2027, more than $2 billion has already been invested in the project.

Supporting a New Generation of Mining Infrastructure
Large-scale industrial facilities demand coordinated electrical systems, dependable communications infrastructure, and experienced field execution. Hunt Electric and ARS worked together to deliver integrated electrical construction and fiber optic services that support the plant’s operational requirements while contributing to one of Minnesota’s most important industrial investments.
Once operational, the facility is expected to create more than 350 permanent jobs while supporting approximately 700 union construction workers during development.
