Carlton County Justice Center

The new 112,276-square-foot Carlton County Justice Center brings together multiple county services into one state-of-the-art facility designed to improve security, operational efficiency, and public accessibility. The building houses the Sheriff’s Office, a 911 Call Center, Courtrooms, the County Attorney, the Public Defender and Probation Offices, and the Law Enforcement Center.

The justice center includes a 96-bed jail, featuring a regional 16-bed Justice Involved Females program, intake and release areas, programming space, inmate services such as medical, food service, and laundry, and dedicated jail administration. The result is a modern, consolidated complex designed to meet today’s safety expectations while providing long-term flexibility for Carlton County’s justice system.

During construction, the project team faced a significant challenge when the 3000A ASCO Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) arrived on-site damaged, creating a potential nine-month delay due to replacement lead times.

Through coordinated efforts between Project Manager Jim Monroe, Hunt Electric leadership, Purchasing, Risk Management, and key vendors, a replacement ATS was sourced and installed in just three months, preventing major schedule impacts and maintaining project momentum.

Hunt Electric, in partnership with low-voltage provider ARS, delivered a complete electrical, voice-data, security, and fire alarm buildout for the new justice center. Our work included:

• Installation of a 3000A main service
• Installation of a 1500 kW generator
• Deployment of 2,067 new light fixtures
• Integration of 200 security cameras
• Installation of 400,000 feet of power conductors and cables
• Installation of 70,350 feet of conduit
• Installation of 600,000 feet of low-voltage cabling
