MANKATO, MN – April 2026 –
Earlier this month, electricians from Hunt Electric began replacing the modern streetlights in Old Town with retro-style lamps that better align with the district’s historic charm.
The Mankato City Council had approved over $800,000 last July to install these vintage-inspired lights, which were intended to complement the character of the Old Town business district. However, during the Riverfront Drive reconstruction, a mix-up led to the installation of contemporary, highway-style lights instead.
This week marked the start of correcting that oversight. Workers installed several of the new lamps, which feature a classic design more in tune with Old Town’s aesthetic. Once the project is complete, the updated lighting will enhance the area’s atmosphere, creating a more cohesive and inviting environment for pedestrians and visitors.
