Summit Academy

Hunt Electric was recently mentioned in a great article about the alumni of Summit Academy working on the Downtown East project.

Summit Academy is working with Ryan Companies US, Inc. as the diversity workforce provider on the redevelopment of the Downtown East neighborhood.“Ryan is pleased to partner with Summit Academy on the Downtown East project, in our efforts to increase the capacity of the industry’s emerging workforce,” says Elizabeth Campbell, Inclusion Director, Ryan Companies US, Inc.

Ryan is building three apartment buildings and two 15-story office towers on the crossroads of 4th Street South and 5th Avenue South in Minneapolis. On this project, Summit works with Ryan to fulfill their minority and women employment goals and connect them with individuals interested in working on the Downtown East project. This key project has created an exciting employment opportunity for Summit Academy’s construction graduates.

Tim Holmberg is Vice President of Hunt Electric Corporation, a subcontractor on the Downtown East project. He explains the value of the project for these Summit graduates: “They have had the opportunity to work on a major downtown office construction project and have had exposure to all that goes with that.” At this time six Summit alumni are working on this project and the goal is to hire eleven more. There will also be an opportunity this fall for current Summit construction students to visit the site as part of a field trip. During a recent Summit’s visit to the site, we caught up with two of our electrician alumni working on the project: Isaiah Campbell and Brian Cain. Both alums are electrician apprentices with Hunt Electric. Holmberg describes both Summit alums as “fantastic workers with great attitudes. They show up for work every day on time and ready to go. They both have the potential for a great future in the industry.”
